We are looking for one outstanding business with the following characteristics:

- Retiring owner or operator looking to transition from the business
- Open to longer-term transition solutions for owners who do not immediately want to sell
- $750k to $2M in annual EBITDA or >$4M in annual revenues
- 10%+ profit margins
- Track record of enduring profitability (3+ years)
- Loyal customers that generate recurring or contractual revenues
- Low customer concentration, with no single customer accounting for >20% of revenues
- Motivated management and operating team willing to stay on
- Western Canada

About us

We are a husband-and-wife team looking to acquire one outstanding business in Western Canada, to operate and grow as our family business over the long-term.

Yuwei graduated from UBC Sauder and became a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where she worked with CEOs of companies of all sizes, from local credit unions to national retailers. During COVID, she was seconded to lululemon, where she worked to make important and urgent decisions for stores as retailers faced operational challenges brought on by the pandemic. She discovered entrepreneurship through acquisition when she returned to school to get her MBA at Harvard Business School in 2022.

Josh also graduated from UBC Sauder and started his career in investment banking at Scotiabank in Vancouver, advising mining companies on M&A. In 2021, he moved to the Silicon Valley where he became an operator in various technology companies, managing millions in budgets and investments, building and scaling teams, and wearing multiple hats across finance, operations, and sales. After years in high-growth tech, he’s excited to build something of his own that is stable and enduring.

Building our careers around a family business resonates deeply with us. We both come from families whose livelihoods were shaped by small businesses, and after years of living away from home, it has long been our goal to return to Vancouver, put down deeper roots, and give back to the local community.

After immigrating to Canada in the late 90s, Yuwei parents bought their first home on Pender Street in Vancouver, which solidified their “Canadian dream.” We’re excited to partner with a business owner like you to realize our dreams.

Jiamei has over 18 years of experience in strategy, customer experience, and business transformation. At lululemon, she leads the development and execution of global member engagement programs and partnerships. At McKinsey, she serves global brands and investors on topics of strategy, consumer insights, loyalty, and omnichannel growth. Her experience spans retail, banking, manufacturing, public sector, and utilities. She is a member of the Faculty Advisory Board at UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
Kurt McFee

COO at Appara AI
Kurt has nearly a decade of experience investing in, advising, and leading small businesses and startups. He is currently the Chief Operating Office at Appara AI, a legal technology platform and a co-founder at Playbook, which delivers training and facilitation services to SMBs. Kurt honed his expertise at McKinsey & Company, where he led operational transformations for utilities, mining, and oil and gas clients. An engineer by trade, Kurt combines his strategic thinking with rigorous execution discipline.
Phil Arrata

Partner, Champlain Financial Corporation
Phil is a proven executive, investor, and advisor with over 20 years of experience. He is currently a partner with Champlain Financial Corporation, a PE firm focused on investing in mid-sized Canadian companies.
Phil’s began his career in consulting at Deloitte and then McKinsey. Transitioning to the retail sector, he served as CFO for Best Buy Canada and then became CEO of Mountain Equipment Co-Op. In these roles, he led large-scale transformation programs as the companies adapted to the changing retail landscape.
Phil is involved in the community as a Board Member of the BC Women’s Health Foundation, and as an Adjunct Professor at UBC's MBA program.
